The Edge of Chaos-Managers' Toolkit

Introduction

The paper covers the concept of edge of chaos that is used by managers today as a creative tool for team building and crisis management strategies. The concept of chaos theory explains the organization system to grow and develop, so that it recognizes the need to grow and change. Whether in nature or related to the human body, because the education system is a relatively small change in one variable may be the need to create a chaotic condition, that is, a deeper change. In this era of accountability there is evidence of some of the transformational leaders who accept the idea of ??a clear mission and focused, shared leadership and promote change in the information-based decisions lead to student success.

Edge of Chaos Theory

One of the founders of complexity theory Gleick wrote that the twentieth century will remain in the history of science, as the century of the theory of relativity, quantum theory and chaos theory. It is thanks to them, scientists were forced to abandon determinism in science, stop looking at the world as a mechanical model of Newton. Today, science requires a holistic view of the world in all its complexity (Heylighen, 1997, pp. 31), interconnectedness and interdependence. All control theory looking at the organization as something that tends to order and stability. Complexity theory focuses on the elements in the organization, which is traditionally attributed to noise, confusion, chaos and confusion. Complexity theory emphasizes that it is in this mess are germs of future development and transformation.

The theory of chaos and complexity - is a new scientific paradigm, which is holistic in nature (Cohen and Stewart, 1994, pp. 17). Systems are in constant motion and interaction with the environment, processing information and carrying out feedback. Dynamic stage of rest are interspersed with the stages are so complicated that the impression of complete chaos and unpredictable (Cohen and Stewart, 1994, pp. 29). The order comes from disorder in the process of self-organization, but at some point, "weakened" the stability of the system once again gives birth to chaos. The creative process is located in the "edge of chaos." Emerge from the "contradiction" between elements that are simultaneously both in cooperation and in competition.

Any system complex enough-is a body, a mind, an organization, a society or an ecosystem-naturally evolves to and stays within the narrow realm of "instability limited", varying periodically between the immutable order and total disorder between the rigid constancy and chaotic turbulence (Phillips and Philips, 1993, pp.549). This is a special condition, with sufficient order (stability) and to store information, organization and develop processes, but with a certain amount of disorder (instability) to transmit information, organization and be able to adapt to new situations.

This domain diffuse transition between order and chaos is what is known as the "edge of chaos" or "critical condition". It is in this thin strip where the main elements of the system are the appropriate number of connections and maintain optimal ...
