One of the newest terms in law enforcement is Community policing. This community policing is a federal scheme. It is established on the foundations providing safety and security to everyone and reducing the fear of crime. One of the main essences provided by community police is the collaboration between the police and the community as they not only identify but also solves the problems related to the members of the community. Due to this the police is no longer the only guardian of security and safety as well as the law and order it enables all the members of the society to participate as active associates improving the security and safety of the neighborhood. There are far reaching implications of the community policing. Expansion in the crime patrolling and the preventive actions based on problem solving process makes the community police play a pivotal role as there are profound changes required by the department of police. Living in a democratic country citizens have the right to be safe and protected (Couper et al, 1991).

There are several laws revised and hopefully there will be more safety and security provided within the societies. Community policing in other parts of the world is tried and used in order to accomplish security and eradicate crimes. Although several people are of the opinion that community policing in nothing but something related to the public relations, which is not the fact. Apparently the main reason community police is developed is to ensure a crime free area and society. With the help, of community policing the government as well as the police officers can easily identify the needs of security of the people in the society. Several authors are of the belief that community policing is involved in fighting against crime and other disorders concerning the civilians (Banas et al, 1985). Community policing is an essential need as the police itself cannot prevent all the crimes. There are several successful criteria mentioned by many authors and researchers ensuring that community policing will be an effective way to reduce crimes.

There are several effective strategies in order to make the community policing more effective. This will not only help the citizens but also be helpful for the police as well as the government. This way the rate of crime will decrease bringing peace and prosperity in the life of the citizens. There are two main components in which community policing is based: problem solving and community partnership. Here, one should ensure that the police department creates positive relations in the community they are serving in, along with properly addressing the needs as well as prioritizing the problems and solving it as per the requirements (Freeman, 1989).
