Elite Interview: The Power Structure Of Tesco

Introduction and Overview of the Interview Process

This assignment is based on interview analysis of the company. I have interviewed the two managers of the company whose name are Roger and John. I had also interviewed one administration executive, whose name is Kenneth. The name of the chosen company is Tesco branch at Welwyn Garden City. Tesco is the most recognizable name in the retail industry as it is counted in one of the leading food retailers in U.K, an estimated 15.5% share of the total market. Tesco is also designed to increase their share of non-market. The British supermarket company, Tesco is now the fourth largest retail chain in the world, employing 450,000 people and has a growth rate of 13% annually.

Altogether, I interviewed three personnel at Tesco. I asked them open ended questions regarding the power structure of organization; management practices etc. During the interview session, all three personnel were present in a board room. I encouraged all the three interviewees to answer simultaneously. Following are the questions that I asked to the management of Tesco on the power structure of organization.

Roger And John, How You Define The Organizational Structure?

John said to me that the organizational structure or the power structure of any company refers to a system which consists of various activities that lead to the achievement of the aims and objectives of the organization. These important activities include allocation of task, coordination, management and supervision that lead to the achievement of organizational aims and objectives. There are two basic advantages for an organizational of having a well developed organizational structure. Firstly, the organizational structure provides a foundation on which operating routines and procedures rely. Secondly, this structure provides clear definitions as to which individual would participate in which decision. Roger answered that organizational structure expresses the form of division of labour and cooperation in the management and has an active impact on the enterprise. The more perfect is the governance structure; the better will be the control and efficiency of the enterprise. Hierarchical organizational structure comes together in a single. The organizational structure of the company refers to the composition, subordination, interaction, and distribution of works by departments and governments, between which certain attitudes about the implementation of power, command, and data streams took place.

How Would You Define The Power Structure Of Tesco?

Roger and John both answered that the organizational structure of Tesco demonstrates a hierarchical structure. The structure of Tesco begins with the Chairman and CEO of the organization followed by the Board of Directors. The structure further continues with the CFO, CIO and COO of the organization. After this senior management, the organizational structure consists of various departments who are responsible for carrying out the tactical and operational activities of the organization.
