Introduction

When focusing on the violence that takes place in the emergency departments, we need too look at the primary cause that how it all did began. The aggression and the violence in the American society that exists, but this all arise with the inability to deal with psychological problems like sleeping problems, post traumatic stress syndrome that would result in ending up situation of violence. All of these disorders can create misinterpretation or misunderstanding of a situation. It relates to the situational frustration that takes places because the individual doesn't have control over the environment they are in and they get certain awareness or feelings of uncontrolled, when they go through deprivation and then they don't feel appropriate according to the situation. This could be the cause of violence created by frustration in the emergency department, especially in the patients who have to wait for longer hours in order to see a health care provider in the Emergency Department. Because the certain situation in not in their control and the stress level is building up that develops aggression.

Even day to day increased violence that is shown through the media exposure like videogames, athletics, movies, advertisements, music, and television are all exposing the individuals mind with more and more violence related acts that results in developing an aggressive nature (Allen, 2009).



Discussion

In the book violence in the emergency department, certain different aspects of violence have been discussed and Professor Gregory has his own explanation of violence, according to him violence is the result of humiliation. He is a sociology professor at UCLA. And that the violence act shows the behavior of twisted emotions and when this takes place the person expressing violence held's other things or individuals responsible for being provoked for certain act. These feelings of humiliation can result differently in ever other individual. And they way they express it is quite different because some of them might go through humiliation that results in rage where they are not able to control their emotions but others who are able to control their emotion and not express rage absorb this feeling in a different way and can result in become very violent without notifying the individual about attacking (Allen, 2009).

Violence in the emergency departments are continuously increasing and resulting in alarming situations. And because of that many studies and surveys are conducted, the emergency nurses association found out that 25% of respondents reported of facing the physical violence twenty times within just past three years and 20 % reported that they encountered approx more than 200 times situations of verbal abuse. There are many articles that are being released on this topic because of the increased violent situations “the Journal of Nursing Administration” supported and discussed the situation and the results of the survey that was taken in ENA, that this violence can become a serious threat to the emergency departments effecting other people as well and this should be given urgent attention.
