Introduction

Joyce and Conrad are now recognized as two of the most outstanding authors of modern fiction in English. Certainly recognition of each of them differ in eagerness and in deepness of accorded admiration from critic to critic; and in most latest reports of modernism in literature, the position of Joyce is more axiomatic and more assured than is that of Conrad whose repute has started to resolve into that of a writer transitional between the Fictions of English of the Edwardian period.
