Essay Plan of three Stories

Introduction

The paper is designed to have a glance over the crucial themes of our society which are greatly depicted in three stories; “The Assistant”, “A Pair of Tickets” and “Everything That Rises Must Converge”. The story of “The Assistant” is about a grocer in postwar Brooklyn, Morris Bober, who always wishes well for his family and for himself. This story describes how an immigrant grocer faces difficulties in his career on another's land. In the starting of the novel two robbers steal the grocery of Morris and knock him off. Afterwards, things became better when Frank Alpine becomes the assistant of Morris. Things got complicated when Frank fallen in love with the daughter of Morris, Helen. On other hand, the story of “A Pair of Tickets” narrates the journey of a Chinese-American woman who comes back to China after the early death of her mother. The story commence by taking June May and her father on a train, which would take them to the ancestral home of June May's in China. The theme of the story is associated to the re-identification with the homeland, but paradoxically the theme of the story is destabilized by the focus of author on the modernization of China. Moreover, “Everything That Rises Must Converge” is a story about the son Julian, who is a recent graduate from college and soi-disant scholar. The story defines the relationship between son and mother in the story, and also shows the glimpses of racism under the boundary of America.
