Ethics

Introduction

Ethics are defined as the moral guidelines developed by individuals, which influence their decision making capabilities sand their general lifestyle. The ethical code of conduct is a very essential component of the life of an individual, as it represents the core philosophical and ideological source. Ethics is a very complex concept and has played a vital role in the development of the contemporary modern society. In the historical perspective religion was considered the sole source of ethics, and people generally depended on their respective religious beliefs to develop their ideological frameworks (Williams, 2006). . It is due to this factor that the ethical principles of various societies that exist in the world were contradicting and very dissimilar. The ethical code of conduct was considered as a relative term, as every society had a set of customs and religious beliefs which constituted their ethical lives.

The human society eventually progressed towards a harmonious definition of the ethical principles and moved towards a universally acceptable code of conduct. Although ethics are still considered t o be predominantly relative in nature, and every society still has different point of view regarding this concept; the modern society generally has a shared view of the ethical code of conduct. Majority of the developed western countries have similar guidelines regarding their ethical orientations, and this has enabled them to amalgamate their societies and develop a cosmopolitan structure. One of the most significant factors regarding the ethical framework of the developed world is the objective and universal view of the concept. This approach allows these countries to alleviate the subjective and biased principles, to establish an equitable system, which allows ever citizen in the country to attain prosperity.

This structure is essential for the material and intellectual growth of the society, as it alleviates the dilemmas regarding the social evils that may exist in the society. I think that without an objective and unbiased ethical code of conduct a country or a society cannot develop and in the long term perspective, move towards a harmonious and diverse society.

In my personal life I believe that the concept of ethic is very dynamic and an individual should not follow a strict or one dimensional perspective. In my early life, I considered that an objective and a humanitarian approach to ethics was the essential strategy, as a person should only seek to perform acts which do not harm the interests of any stakeholder. This perspective was very limited and did not take in to account several situations which can arise, under which a contrary action might be required. My perception regarding the concept of ethics was highly influence d by my living arrangements and the personal environment. During my childhood, my parents bore the ...
