Introduction

The purpose of this assignment is to identify and highlight two examples from unethical practice in hospitality industry and will further look at who reported the practices, when it was reported and what steps the company took to overcome this. The two players of hospitality industry that is chosen for this assignment are:

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)

Mc Donald's

Ethics occupy immense significance in the business world. Whether it is about opening your own company or working for another one, business ethics play an important role in maintaining cordial relations with the colleagues and underlie all business practices. In this case, a person, who has been working in an advertising agency for more than five years, decides to open up his won agency. He agrees to follow the golden rules of business ethics, in a sense that he will not “snatch” his employers' clients nor would engage in any kind of an unfair or biased competition. The parties agreed to abide by the requirements for the preservation of “confidentiality and competition” between them (Nesteruk, 1995, p. 361-369).

Ethical Issue in Business

KFC ethical activities came to light when some activists of animal rights challenged KFC treatment of chicken. In June 2008, people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) alongside Hollywood actress Pamela Anderson sent letter to complain to the Managing Director of KFC in the UK for the Ethical Treatment of chicken (Belk, 1996, 23-37). According to this group, Kentucky Fried Chicken is not fond of the way they treat their suppliers for their chicken farms. The group said that these providers grow up the chicken very fast, which prevents their normal nourishment

The activists of the past also stated that the abuse KFC suppliers usually chicken slaughterhouses. According to activists, animal rights, the Canadian chain decided to consider how the chickens were raised before buying from suppliers, even offered to vegetarian alternatives for their customers. Consequently, the celebrity Pamela Anderson - who spoke on behalf of PETA, said she quit using KFC products to comply with their suggestions (Johar, 1991, 23-32).

Chosen Organization for Unethical Business Practice

The company chosen for the analysis is fast food restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Company headquarters is in Kentucky in the United States. It is also one of the most popular restaurant chains in the world, especially with reference to the chicken. It has more than eleven thousand restaurants located in more than eighty countries worldwide. Examples include United Kingdom, China, Thailand, Kuwait, Spain and Barbados, Puerto Rico and many more.
