Introduction

Whether or not cultures exist in America that antedate those found in Europe and Asia is purely conjectural. At the present, however, paleontologists are fairly consistent in the belief that the cultural objects found in the Americas surpass those of the same age in the Old World as to technique and beauty. Time and continued research will probably establish this as fact.

The western civilization also got many philosophies from the Greeks to better understand ourselves, and things around us. Socrates stated, "The unexamined life is not worth living." which means that life is not worth living if you do not look back at it to understand and enjoy it. Their studies of Epicureanism that taught people to enjoy life and the gaining of knowledge was preferable over that of the body. The Greeks started questioning things around them, which started Skepticism, which is the understanding that not all things have answers and some things are not always right. The Greeks believed reason is what makes humans different from the animal kingdom.

Discussion

The western civilization could be defined as a "rational" civilization because it's founded on material values. Religion no longer rules all the aspects of our lives because we got used to consider society as independent of religion. The way we deal with problems is rather rational, scientific and technical. In our society everything is ruled by reason.

Today, a world government should be established to regulate the unified world market (not to put it into a depression). Nevertheless, as a territorial state in Greece was impossible, the united world nation is a never-never land in our time.
