Feudalism and Manorialism

Feudalism is characterized by three elements

Personal Relationship

This relationship was known as the "vassalage.” Both the lord and the vassal were of the noble class. The vassal pledged 40 days of military service each year. In turn, he received protection and support (mostly economic) from his lord.

Property Element

The vassal received property. This property was termed as "benefice" or "fief.” Fiefs, in the coming years, became hereditary.
