Introduction

Relations between the United States and the Philippines were seemingly positive, since the two countries to the original association. Nevertheless, the optimistic approach and the "big brother" - like role of the United States, and in the past were the facade that the Bush administration used the United States to cover their imperialist ideals. In the late nineteenth century, the United States no longer had any boundaries to expand their territory, and therefore began to consider imperialism as a logical step in its growth as a nation. The annexation of the Philippines is the direct cause of this altered form of imperialism, the "Manifesto of Destinies" most Americans. US-Philippine relations had suffered from the long-dominant position, which is converted to a negative attitude towards the late Filipino immigrants trying to earn a living on the American mainland. Our "Little Brown Brothers" as they were President Taft, is frequently badly to the similar extremes as the ex-slaves in the southern United States as the Civil War.

At the dawn of the nineteenth century, hysteria encapsulated the United States with regard to the expansion and the ideals of imperialism and colonialism. By means of the achievement of the U.S. to eliminate all outside influence in the continental United States, it was inevitable that the next step will be to make U.S. power abroad. However, this is not the cause of the overwhelming majority support for the American public in connection with the United States' previous experience with England and colonialism (Cordova pp 78-112). These fears and doubts have been disabled, in particular, as William Randolph Hurst and his practice of yellow journalism, as well as President McKinley in the creation of "Manifest Destinies."

With the help of these methods, succeeded in convincing Americans believe that it was their God-given right to expand the territory of the U.S. around the world. A great opportunity has arisen to make this new ideal, as the United States declared war on Spain. Victory over the Spanish Empire would entail an abundant source of foreign goods and, more importantly, the United States should not assume the role of the empire. This victory came during the summer of 1898 and in December, under the Treaty of Paris, which ended in the Spanish-American War, the United States was awarded the 10-week victory in the island of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Guam and the Philippines. To release the bulk of these holdings, the question of what to do with the archipelago of the Philippines have remained unanswered. That was until President McKinley received a vision from God telling him that America needs to develop in the Philippines, as if they were a child, because they can not assist in any other nation, and if they gained independence, the residents were "unfit for self-government [and] in the near future of anarchy and chaos (Ignacio p 45)."
