Introduction

The ILM Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management is especially available to cater to the needs of future managers to help establish a firm base of their practices. The Award is a condition that instills the foundations in knowledge, skills and the basic knowhow necessary for the first line manager in today's ever changing world. To aid in the acquiring of effective methods to make decisions, and managerial issues, the “Solving problems and Making Decisions” unit was under development to allow the acquisition and procession of information from communication.

The term smart objectives refer to the setting of objects in an intelligent way, making certain they are Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time oriented, to insure successful attainment. To be able to set SMART objectives, it is first important to understand the job and requirement obviously to be able to outline the goals. As a first line manager, managing people is the main task, to generate a set of business results, in a way that is acceptable to the company. This requires the manager to be competent, to be able to process information and direction, and use it to guide people to attaining organizational goals (Doran, G. T. Pp. 35-36).

The work involves the manager to be able to plan, negotiate, make decisions, organize, have customer focus, have commercial knowhow, and the ability to make judgments in a way that it positively affects business outputs. In addition to this, the main responsibility of a manager is to work with people to get the work done, by motivating, communicating, leading, working with people, evaluating performance and interacting.

Listing of goals

Initially the first step is to take orders from the management and break it into tasks to be completed by different people and departments. In terms of pharmacy, it has to do with sales targets stretched over a region, based on a time, usually a month. The communication of sales objectives to the sales team and the relationship team, who support the sales staff are also the responsibility of the line manager. The basic objectives of the Line manager are to identify the goals, break them into simple, measurable tasks, allocate them to the desired personnel, give time duration to meet the assigned goals, evaluate the performance on a week basis, and provide feedback, and change strategy accordingly.
