Christianity and Freedom of Religion

ABSTRACT

Freedom of religion has historically been an important mechanism for mediating inter-communal conflicts. The long history of the protection of freedom of religion distinguishes it from other policies aimed at addressing social diversity. No one is obliged to report their attitudes toward religion and cannot be coerced in determining his attitude to religion, to profess or renounce a religion, to participate or not participate in worship and other religious rites and ceremonies, the activity of religious associations, and religious education. Prohibited the involvement of minors into religious associations, as well as training young religion against their will and without the consent of their parents or guardians.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Research Question

Each country in the world is highly idiosyncratic in how it regulates religion. Though there may be international trends towards greater cohesion and similarity in laws regulating contracts, trade, securities, transportation, the environment, civil liability, and perhaps even the criminal law. Religion is one realm where each country is likely to insist on its peculiar history, and culture as a basis for preserving its solitary approach to regulating religion. This research is focused on religious freedom. The research question is:

Should people have the right for religious freedom and what are the legal limitation for religious freedom in our society?

Field Site

This research will be founded on the secondary data. The research will encompass the publications, articles and similar studies accessible on the internet. The field site for this research is online and public libraries. Both public and private libraries as well as online libraries were visited to access data. Some of online databases that were accessed are Ebsco, Questia, Emerald, Phoenix and so on. These data bases enable access to many libraries that contain a plethora of information and recent knowledge about the concerned topic. Also the data are mostly peer-reviewed and validates.

Theoretical Framework

Freedom of religion is the right to profess and practice any religion. Historically, the term expanded, and now freedom of religion is understood as the right to profess and practice any religion is not to preach religion or other ideology (Casanova 2006).

The struggle for freedom of religion and belief has accompanied the struggle of peoples for their rights, for democracy and full political and social participation. In a democratic and participatory, the freedom of some may lead us to the denial of the freedom of others. Therefore, in the struggle for democracy has been that the state cannot be owned by a single religious group, as it cannot be owned by a racial or ethnic group in spite of others (Casanova 2006). In societies increasingly multicultural and multi-religious in our time, the struggle of democracy is also the struggle for a secular state, not linked to any religion but respectful of all.
