Introduction

The report aims to discuss about the mission, vision, social responsibility and strategic planning of two companies General Motors (GM) and Toyota. Initially, report discusses the mission statement of both the organizations and quality improvement of the mission and vision statement of both the organizations. Finally report presents SWOT analysis of GM and Toyota motors.

Mission Statement

GM: G.M. is a multinational corporation engaged in socially responsible operations, worldwide. It is dedicated to provide products and services of such quality that our customers will receive superior value while our employees and business partners will share in our success and our stock-holders will receive a sustained superior return on their investment (Kochan 2003).

Toyota: To sustain profitable growth by providing the best customer experience and dealer support (Magee 2008).

Vision

GM: Our vision is to be the world leader in transportation products and related services. In order to achieve this vision, we recognize that many issues must be addressed and many goals attained (Sengir 2004). It is imperative that economic, environmental and social objectives be integrated into our daily business objectives and future planning activities so that we can become a more sustainable company.

Toyota: Since its foundation, Toyota has been using its Guiding Principles to produce reliable vehicles and sustainable development of society by employing innovative and high quality products and services (Liker 2004).

Social Responsibility

GM: GM commitment to social responsibility is broad; it began publishing an annual corporate responsibility and sustainability report in 1950 and was the first automobile manufacturer to do so.

Toyota: Social responsibility theory state that organization responsibility to perform in such a manner that to promote a society at liberty (Liker 2004). However, Toyota was liable to obey these by respecting people of the society, their protection of life, safety and right of conscience. Nevertheless, Toyota did violate this by manufacturing unsafe cars for their customers that rely on microprocessors, sensors and electronic motors as a substitute of a mechanical linkage in order for the connection of accelerator pedal to the throttle plate engine. Moreover, Toyota delay in calling of the defected car back and avoided investigation process too, which clearly state that Toyota was aware of the defect in the engine. According to the theory Toyota violated the law of protection and safety (Magee 2008).

Strategic Planning

GM: According to the management of General Motors, the long-term plan consumes a lot of resources and time and reaps results after a long period. When implementing a short-term plan, the machinery is occupied with only one activity, which saves a lot of time for other activities and gives the labor and the machinery space for other activities. Whenever there is a problem with the machine it stops working immediately, the problem is analyzed on the spot and the cause of the problem is rectified.
