ABSTRACT

The instability of economic circumstances during the last decade and the enhancement in the worldwide competitiveness have determined the strong movements for innovation, predominantly in most developed countries. One open response has been to look for better efficiencies and reliability in international logistics all the way through alliance with group members involves in the logistics chain, particularly in ports. The echelon of this collaboration has been very advanced, however in diverse ways indifferent ports and also by different port authorities. It also supplemented the importance of the effectual working of supply chains and logistics. This indirectly created the enhanced relationship between different businesses, whether public or private.

With the increased importance of supply chains and logistics globally, chances of threat also increases. As mentioned in this report, the biggest threat to Singapore port or any other port is the safety of containers and different cargoes. For this purpose, there are various options to avail in order to deal with the expected risks linked with the global supply chains safety. There are various strategies that can be use to manage risk. Proper risk management is the key issue for consideration should taken into account by maritime port authority.

Furthermore the maritime port authority must apply some strategies at terminal in order to be remain competitive in the market worldwide. Lead time replenishment and variability in demand additionally with the nature of the item for consumption and lifecycle of products are the most important dimensions in the process of selecting strategies for efficient logistics structure and supply chains. The sustainability of supply chain networks and logistics requires remarkable transport solutions.

In this report it is also presented some measures and strategies that should be taken into consideration by the maritime port authority in order to perform its operations more effectively and efficiently. These measures include the information management, logistics management, inventory management, quality management, inbound and outbound logistics management, relationship management with working members, maintenance of responsiveness that too involves certain strategies in order to keep up with the customers timely, and so on.

There are some cargo issues as well that should be solved. These issues include scarcity of capacity at terminals for different cargoes and containers. As everyone knows that Singapore is the 2nd busiest port in the world that is why it is difficult to mange it during uncertain circumstances and influential environmental incidents. These problems can be solved through considering different environment effectively strategies so that environmental and social impact on cargo transportation would reduce or eliminate. These strategies mainly entailed safety measures, routes management, and capacity management and so on.
