CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

One of the most significant qualities of the modern world is that the economic consequences of nations, regions, and even individual communities are fundamentally interrelated (Venaik, 2005, 655). Globalization must be viewed within a system context. This process has been accentuated by the rapid and widespread implementation of new technologies, particularly in the area of information technology and communications. Globalization has had a profound effect on both location-specific advantages and corporate-ownership advantages.

Problem Statement

The process of globalization has not affected all countries in the same way. The nature and content of MNC activity have undergone marked shifts as their own specific intangible assets, particularly intellectual capital, have become more mobile; and national governments now increasingly compete with each other to attract this beneficial and mobile investment (Skulmoski, 2007, 13). Some nations have been able to leverage the significant advantage by attracting more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), whereas others have fallen significantly behind. Thus, the process of globalization and the attraction of foreign direct investments have had an acute effect on emerging economies by having a significant impact on the means of production.

Aims and objectives of the Research

Before starting on the course of the research, a researcher has to decide upon the aims and objectives of the research study, which would help the researcher in conducting the research. The aims and objectives act like a guide for the researcher through which the researcher can deduce research questions. The aims and objectives of this research study are as follows.

To identify the sensational factors for penetrating emerging markets

Discuss hoe success measured in emerging markets

To identify the factors that lead to failure in emerging markets

Research Questions

The research questions act like a guiding tool for a researcher in the duration of a research. A researcher devises the research questions from the aims and objectives of the research and; therefore, in the end, it helps the researcher in meeting its aims and objectives of the research. The guiding research questions of this research study are defined below.

What are the sensational factors for penetrating emerging markets?
