Introduction

The information presented below is the grievance policy for Alternative Care Limited. This paper will make use of the employment policies that are being implemented in the United Kingdom. The paper will discuss the grievance, disciplinary and redundancy policy according to the English rules and regulations. Alternative Care Ltd is a private care company, providing care over 24 hours to people with learning and physical disabilities, within the community, day care and supported living units in West Yorkshire. The company employs 96 staff, made up of a Senior Management Team, Training Officers, Coordinators, Team Leaders and Support Staff. Whilst no formal Mission Statement is in place the organisation hierarchy have inherently adopted a culture that understands the vision of the business in its market place. This is echoed in respect of the values of the business, where no formal values have been written (Schuler & Jackson 2007, 69 -100).

Our primary business is sourced and funded through the local authority, with additional work being supplemented through word of mouth from existing service users, and private funded clients. As a result of our primary work the organisation has been affected by the recent austerity measures, where local authorities have reduced some care packages and worse case scenarios some have been lapsed. In an effort to manage the financial downturn Alternative Care introduced a pay freeze throughout the organisation approximately 2 years ago. As part of the organisational pay freeze a complete review of staffing levels was completed, resulting in 2 junior management team roles being removed as a cost saving exercise. Issues and complaints arise at times in almost any workplace environment, even with strong management and a competent workforce. Even if the process is rarely used, a standardized grievance procedure is an essential policy to establish for both small and large companies. The specifics of the procedure may vary slightly to meet your company's needs, but the basic process is similar for all businesses.
