Session I: Introduction

The session starts with the group leader explaining the reasons for assembling, the objectives of the program and a brief introduction of each member to the group. The patients would be encouraged to narrate their experiences of suffering from HIV and being treated. The relevance of increasing the awareness and knowledge of the nature of dependence and recovery process will also be discussed, for example a diabetic patient who needs to be educated about the illness, diet control, blood sugar levels, and side effects and overdosing of drugs etc. for successful treatment (Shacham, Reece, Ong'or, Omollo, Monahan & Ojwang, 2008). Afterwards, each patient would be invited to share his or her feelings and emotions. With the sharing of feelings of all patients, group leader starts giving briefing about all the precautions that should be taken in order to keep HIV at far distant from our society, briefing starts from the standard living of people and ends on the precautions for intercourse that should be taken to avoid HIV. Also all new treatments that are available in market for HIV would be discussed. Drugs are not a treatment of HIV, this is a basically emphasized reason that HIV patient feels for him or herself a thrown out personality from this society who is not accepted here. The other three sessions are designed to mitigate this perception (Shacham, Reece, Ong'or, Omollo, Monahan & Ojwang, 2008). Therapist tries to make them feel an integral part of society who is equally contributor of our system. To make them feel better off some activities are also planned to conduct.
