Introduction

Dracunculiasis or Guinea worm disease is a contagious disease passed on primarily via water intake from fresh water pool or other stagnant water resources polluted with microscopic copepods or water fleas that accommodate larvae of infectious guinea worm (CDC, 2011).

The World health organization in 2011 has credentialed 187 states and territories to be unencumbered by the infection , 8 under precertification , with only 4 African territories including Ethiopia, Mali, South Sudan and Chad ( 84% incidents ) still infected ( CDC , 2011 ).
