Introduction

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is an aircraft manufacturer. Gulfstream is a subsidiary of General Dynamics since 2001. Gulfstream Aerospace is one of leading corporate jet manufacturers in the world. They have been building jets since the late 50's and continue to create top of the line aircraft which have become the status symbol of success. With their success comes an extensive company infrastructure and supply chain (Shullen, 2007). This paper discusses the sustainability of Gulfstream's strategy and how it impacted the company in the near-term future.

In October 2010, Gulfstream received an order from Asia Jet for three aircraft, a Gulfstream G150, G200 and G250, to be in charter service from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. in the same month, the company named Bill Colleran as the Director, Technical Information Services at the company. Gulfstream appointed Arrow Aircraft Sales and Charters Private Limited, a professional business-aviation service provider, as an authorized independent sales representative for aircraft transactions in India in February 2011.

Location

Gulfstream has created over 1900 jets since 1958 when it was founded. During this time they have continued to refine its supply chain and now have it worked out to an art.

Gulfstream also offers aircraft ownership services through Gulfstream Financial Services division and Gulfstream pre-owned aircraft sales. Gulfstream is actively involved in conducting basic research in technologies necessary for a business jet with supersonic capabilities. The company provides avionics services, airborne product support, auxiliary power unit, airframe maintenance, inspection, landing gear and spares support services. The company operates five service centers and five facilities in the US, under the General Dynamics Aviation Services banner (Shullen, 2007).
