Introduction

Harriet Tubman, born in 1820, was a runaway slave from Maryland. Her name, at birth, was Araminta Ross. She was one of the eleven children of Harriet and Benjamin Ross. Even though born in a slave family, she was determined and confident that she deserves to live a life of freedom. (Anderson, Pp 111)

Her Accomplishment

Harriet Tubman saved numerous slaves through the Underground Railroad, which was a secret network of safe houses. Harriet Tubman risked her life over a course of ten years, and led hundreds of slave to freedom. Later, during the Civil War, Harriet Tubman became a leader in the abolitionist movement and worked as a spy for Federal Army in South Carolina. Harriet Tubman became so well known for leading the slaves to freedom that she became known as the “Moses” of her people. (Conrad, Pp 191)

Her Cause

Harriet Tubman, who was herself a slave, dedicated her life for the end of slavery. All through life, she endeavored for the liberation of Blacks from the abuse by the Whites. Her entire life was a struggle to eradicate the black-white discrimination. She worked for the elimination of slavery and the establishment of humanity in culture. (Bradford, Pp 149)

Another important issue she worked for was women suffrage. However, to achieve these aims, she had to undergo immensely challenging situations. Harriet Tubman devoted her life to the upholding of equality. She was a symbol of encouragement and motivation for her people. Her persistent effort for civil rights and equality were greatly appreciated by all. Born in a slave family, and after bearing all the torment she underwent, she came out strong in steering the Blacks on the way to freedom. (Douglass, Pp 120-135)
