Introduction



Hate related crime in United States is very dreadful, which is going on in routine basis. The dragging of a black person in New York, Texas: the burning in a crucifixion style of a Gay man in Laramie and the killing of Latino in the area of Long Island. These are erupting on regular basis in contrast to the isolated incidents in other developed countries (Grattet et.al 2008). This is showing the declining level of the nation intolerance towards other human being in the country. Hate crimes under the jurisdiction of law is known as the biased crimes. They are usually criminal offences that are hurled against individuals and groups based on the social, cultural and physical biases. These crimes include an individual or group who can face possible injury, murder or assault from another individual or group. The other name for these crimes is bias motivated crime. Bodily harm is not always the point of these crimes, but it also includes damage to property, bullying, harassments, insults, graffiti, abuse or hate mail against the victims.

Thus, several theories are presented by concerned parties to overcome the hate related crimes. Several groups have been formed for controlling the incidents. Guiding the victim how to protect themselves and make other to live happily. The guilty one should also be guided to overcome the problem as to why they do it and why they should not do it.

Hate Crimes in America

American history is filled with prejudice and hate crimes against individuals and groups. This is because of their religion, race, sexual orientation, disability and other difference. The advent of the 20th century saw many major changes in law, which discriminated the hate crimes. This is the reason why many American now a day's support integrated neighborhood and schools. On the other hand unequal treatment and stereotypes persists, which is exploited by the hate groups quite often.

As per the Federal Bureau of Investigation there were about 7000 to 8000 hate crimes reported in United States in the recent years (Hamm et.al 1993). As per the law enforcement agencies, many hate crimes are not reported, due to the victim reluctance not to meet the police. A study by the US Department of Justice in 2005 estimated that there were about 191,000-hate crime incident in the United States.

Hate Crime Prevention Programs

There are many programs existing in the United States community that address hate crimes. These programs provide training to the law enforcements agencies and many guidelines for prosecutors. There are many hate crime related activities in the United States, which are reported, but there equal number of activities that are not reported. Therefore, to combat these hate related incidents, only law enforcement agencies cannot perform the job but special programs are there which addresses to the need of both victims as well as the perpetrators (Jacobs et.al 1998).
