It involves the utilization of race and origin of an individual as the main cause for making the enforcement. It has become a major concern in the recent past because the majority of people think that it violates civil rights by targeting the minorities for irrelevant reasons.

Hate crime as defined by the United States' Department of Justice is the violent behavior of racism with the purpose of hurting someone and to threaten someone for the reason of their religion, nationality, race, disability, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Moreover, the main federal investigation organization of United States, Federal Bureau of Investigation, has refers the hate crime as a commitment of crime against a society, property, or person which is motivated in part or as whole, by the bias of offender in opposition to religion, nationality, race, disability, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

The issue of these types of crimes is not a new; it has been with us since time, the problem we are facing with it is complexity in finding the truthful report of the range of incidents that are taking place. Finding perfect statistics and cases of hate crime is very hard, by which to identify trend, theme, and extract conclusion. A lot of victims of hate crimes do not report the crime and some are reported as civil problems. Sue from one individual against another individual do not documented as such.

Racism has become a norm of life for the minorities living in the United States. While, people talk about the issue frequently, there is less to be said about the root causes of this act.
