In risk assessment, the most useful aspects of risk assessment are not only the risk numbers are generated, but also the knowledge obtained from a systematic and methodical study of what can go wrong with experience in evaluation system.UR risk has evolved over 20 years experience. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Fission Energy Systems and Safety Program (FESSP) first helped the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to establish safety guidelines for the siting and construction of nuclear power reactors. The challenge today is to meet the growing needs of security risk assessment of various systems engineering.

Risk analysis techniques have been used by government and industry to study and evaluate the safety, reliability and efficiency of various products, processes and services. Were performed original probabilistic risk analysis in three important areas: seismic safety in the U.S. nuclear power plants, regulations in the transport of spent fuel from nuclear reactor and, more recently, risk man began using a nuclear medical device. These assessments have been made in developing new methods and techniques, subsequently affecting the development of rules and expand the range of applications and utility for risk analysis.

Engineering Risk Assessments

In many cases, a risk assessment focuses on the effects that occur when toxic chemicals are released from a product, process or service and enter the environment. This type of risk assessment is often referred to as an assessment of health risk and is commonly performed by federal government agencies dealing with public health and safety, for example, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Occupational Safety and Health.

Other times, a risk assessment focuses on the health effects that may occur when an "engineering" the system fails, an event due to natural or human initiated or when the protective barrier between the environment and a system that fails ( Figure 1). Known as engineering risk assessments, which are commonly carried out by federal government agencies to make safety, health, or the design decisions on the risk of approach to the facilities or equipment.
