Hit The Lottery And The Fate Of Those That Really Have Won A Lot Of Money In The Lottery

Lottery enjoys its fame as a gambling game by virtue of the sheer number of players, and sometimes, the operator that balls the lottery. It is a form of gambling that requires the drawing of lots to win a prize, and it is usually created by organizations for revenue-generation and for sheer fun. Small lotteries may be set up by organizations or sometimes run by city/town governments. However, in some countries, it is their own government that operates lotteries for revenue collection. In any case, government still regulates the business of lotteries. Why do we then call lottery as a leap of fate (faith)? There are two ways that we can explain this thing: mathematically and psychologically.

Mathematically speaking, the odds against winning the lottery are extremely high, even cosmically high. Take the case for example of a national lottery where there are 36 numbers to choose from, and you have to make a combination of six random numbers. Each number chosen, let us say, may not be repeated in any of the six. Hence, in equation, we will have 36 x 35 x 34 x 33 x 32 x 31. This is equal to 1,402,410,240 possible combinations! Meaning to say, one lottery ticket has 1 over 1,402,410,240 chance of winning. Of course, this number is still dependent on the rules of the lottery you play. The probability of winning may go higher, but still, the percentage is close to nil.

However, despite this explanation, why do people still flock lottery booths to buy their tickets? Two main reasons: One, the big prize money and two, least effort and money to win. No one plays the lottery as a game. You just buy tickets, and that's practically it. Even perennial lottery bettors do not consider it as game. Operators make money from it from the idea that money will be generated through the sheer number of participants.

The mere thought of the big prize money is the main motivator for people to bet in lotteries. It may reflect their lost of hope to become rich through hard work, thus clinging to slim chance for instant richness.

But hey, it is still a game, isn't it? Some lotteries give minor prizes to those cards or tickets that match 3 - 5 numbers out of the six drawn numbers. ...
