ABSTRACT

This research explores the evolution of small business in Russia. Russian government's commitment to small business development is a barometer, where Russia intends to go in the future. Small business reform entails improves the environment in which businesses operate and thrive. SMEs are the backbone of economy, which has high development potential, this research explore the role Russia's SMEs in its economic development and explore how does the process of development of small and medium enterprises face many difficulties, including difficulties in financing which is a major bottleneck hindering the development. This research explores the factors that influence the decision-making in SMEs. This study is important for both academic and policy development because it will enhance the significant contribution to existing literature, that businesses could apply for their development. SMEs have high potential of growth. Small businesses create jobs, and consequently enhance social security. Research indicated that small business growth and development is largely dependent on the quality of the overall entrepreneurial environment. In case of Russia, its weak infrastructure is a major hindrance to small business development as well as broader economic growth, and government can provide more effective support to SME sector by providing better infrastructure and effective legislation.
