Learning Outcome 1: Purpose and Construction of Personal Development Plan

Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to understand the personal development plan in terms of the knowledge and skills. The focus is on the personal development style, leadership, and the manager's short term and long term needs. This development plan will facilitate the learning of the performance development, organizational team welfare and the stakeholder's needs.

Purpose of Personal Development Plan for Middle Manager and Organization

Personal development plan is said to be a tool that gives an employee an opportunity that can aid them into having an opportunity to understand about themselves. It is said to be an action-based plan that gives them the awareness about their values, be a source of reflection and at the same time give them a goal-setting approach within the context of their career. It is mandatory for an individual to understand their level of knowledge, skills and abilities they possess to understand the where they stand and the extent to which they need to improve themselves to meet the requirement of the designation and at the same time also ensure that they benefit the company from it. In order to boost the competency level the organization should have variety of events such as the training sessions as well as development of strategies that can also aid the organization into knowing more about the employees. The purpose of such a plan is to movie towards improvement. PDP is also said to be a contract that one tends to enter with the employer to ensure that one works towards the development (Pavlina, 2008). The plan consists of a purpose to have a PDP plan, action taken after the strategy is made and results are acquired based on which planning takes place and assessment is made again.

Employees who are said to be goal oriented for them success is crucial. There are individuals who are highly goal oriented but do not have plans to fulfil and this eventually leads to wastage of energy. Individuals, regardless of the career they have, should have spiritual, financial, vocational, career goals as well as objectives. If individuals do not have a goal then they tend to halt the learning and development process. In order to have a learning and development process triggered PDP is an essential since it can aid in academic, personal and professional field (Watts, 2002).

Impact of Management Style

The style of management that is adopted by managers of various organizations is not confined till one style it can also be a combination of man styles. The purpose behind the combination of designs is the fact that there is a high level of diversity. Managers personally should get to know the employee to ensure that the kind of management style that they use should complement the culture they come from.
