Tesco is the only U.K. food retailer with an international growth platform. In contrast to more-challenging domestic markets, international markets are a bigger revenue pool, and offer more promising growth prospects as they are growing faster and are more fragmented with fewer scale competitors. The concept of recruitment, training and development are the significant aspects of all the organizations working in the business sectors. It is the responsibility of the HR department to develop and implement sophisticated plans for the working and functioning of human resources. In linkage with the subject of recruitment, training and development of employees, this study explores the concepts in the UK's largest retail organization Tesco. Tesco assists to employ the right people. They furthermore supply a standard for each job in periods of responsibilities and competencies. These managers assist consider if employees are bearing out work to befitting standards. The overall strategic planning must be consistent with each of the business functions. This may seem like a nightmare for the Strategic Human Resource Management who wishes to position the HR function as a real asset to the company. The basic pay of an employee is of immense interest to the employees at Tesco and employees also want to get paid in a fair manner for their overtime work. Tesco values this philosophy of their employees.

Introduction

The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the Human Resource Practices at the Tesco, Plc. Tesco came into existence in 1919. It was Jack Cohen's idea that gave rise to such a huge and gigantic organization. Tesco is involved in grocery and general merchandising retailing. Tesco is considered as the number three largest retailer in the world if we gauge its position in terms of revenue. First store of Tesco started its operation in 1929. Tesco is one of the companies that are listed in London Stock Exchange (Abang, 2009, pp.197-214).

In the field of human resource management, the concept of development is generally utilizes in correspondence with the idea of training. It pertains to the organizational activity which aims at making the performance of groups and individuals better in the certain organizational settings. The manner in which development differs from training is that training is focused on the employee betterment for the job that is current held by them; while the concept of development is mainly concentrated upon the focus of teaching and learning in the employees' future jobs and tasks, which are impossible to be evaluated currently.
