Introduction

Recent studies suggestions that the human brain does not reach full maturity until the age of 25 years old (Leadbeater). Being within this age group, college students are early on the development path, often aimless with thought to major and career, and leave school book-smart but far from educated with respect to the obstacles that the real world has to offer them. Some may believe that college teaches everything a student needs to know about life after education; but in reality, the curriculum taught in college can often time be of limited use in the “real world”. Most colleges offer courses such as chemistry, calculus, and biology to all their students; but not how the material is learned in these classes going to help you communicate better or build teamwork skills. This lack of education and preparation leaves students disadvantaged as well as handicapped in major aspects of society (Floyd, 6). Of the many things we learn in college, vital sub skills like communication are often overlooked.

Discussion

People communicate because that communication is absolutely necessary for psychological well-being. Communication is not only a human need but a means to satisfy many. Interpersonal communication skills should not be measured solely by the degree to which community behavior helps to satisfy their own needs, but also by the extent to which they provide to others the satisfaction of their own.

Communication Skills

Communication skills do not simply refer to how one interacts with another person. It encompasses much more than that: the way we respond to people whom we are speaking to, listening, body gestures, diction and tone in our voice as well as many other things (Kramer and Hess, 80). A common mistake people make is to focus on the delivery of content, instead of how it's received. Communication has to be two-way. People use communication skills to successfully convey meaningful information. By this, I'm not necessarily talking about giving speeches or presentations, although that most defiantly falls in this category. I'm talking about the ability to clearly take what's in your head and to put it into words so another person can understand what you're saying the first time (Kramer and Hess, 80).

Effective communication can be defined as; “relevant information, that conveys to the concern people in a style and forms that are visibly and clearly understand to the concern people at the right time” (Kramer and Hess, 80). Communication is most important process at the workplace that plays role as a key element to motivate employees. Communication should be two-way process, when employee feels that they are involved in the decision making of the organization then they try to be positive and more devoted to the firm (Kramer and Hess, 80).

To create a successful business relationship and to achieve a high career success, a leader or professional is required who is able to create an effective communicated system at the workplace (Hansen, 28).
