ABSTRACT

Videogame have become one of the interesting activities of children in UK. The sale has grown consistently with this category and has reached to 7.5 billion dollars. This study aims to answer the impact of violent video games on aggression on children. The method used for this study will be quantitative research method in which the researcher will analyze the parent's perspectives in response to the impact of violent video games on children. After analyzing the survey it is therefore determined that video game, playing by children is very high. A recommendation for future research would be to conduct a study on the exposure of violent video games and self-reported aggression with the parents and their children.

Background of the Study

Videogame have become one of the interesting activities of children in UK. The sale has grown consistently with this category and has reached to 7.5 billion dollars. Worldwide sales of video games have increased to a very high rate and as the technology is flourishing, the trend of playing video games is increasing at a high rate(Bensley, Van, 2001). Children belonging to the age group 2-17 years play video games 7 days a week. This difference is wide while considering the case of boys and girls. There are two aspects of video games that are of interest for the researchers. These include the aspect of violent and non-violent video games. Over the past years a number of studies have been conducted which have looked at the aspects of determining the effects of video games on children. There has been association found between video game use and aggressive behavior. Few aspects suggest that the amount of playing violent games increases the aggressive behavior in children while video games also affect the school performance (Bluemke, Friedrich, 2010).

The aim of this study is to investigate the nature, in terms of content, amount, and social context, of young children's computer/ video game playing, do playing violent video games have an aggressive behavioral impact on children in Blanchard town, Dublin, Ireland?
