Importance of Metals

Introduction

Metal is a chemical element metallic rare high economic value. The notion of precious metal fluctuates at different times and cultures as well as supply and demand. In modern world, precious metals of extreme importance are gold, silver, platinum and palladium; however, these are not necessarily the most expensive and they have not always been the most appreciated by all. In the nineteenth century still, platinum was used by fraudsters to counterfeit money. Metals have many industrial applications. In particular, the electronic industry uses platinum, palladium, rhodium, gold and silver. The production of these metals by extraction of the natural environment is no longer sufficient to ensure the needs of global consumption. However, these metals have economic or societal impacts throughout the world (Parr, pp. 68-75).

Metals and Society

In nature there is a considerable amount of metals that can be obtained through its direct extraction. The metals are of great importance for our society today developed. Without the metals and mineral resources the existing life condition would not be here. Metals are now an essential and important part of our lives. Metals are found in every substance or thing related to the modern world; from cars to the crockery, from jewellery to the buildings, hence, everything that exists in this modern world has to an extent metal utilization.

Obviously the Bronze Age was a very crucial period of change, new elements appeared, which are often associated with migration or displacement of peoples. Those metals would be installed at strategic crossing points, fords of rivers and tributaries. These territories were colonized by appropriating land and crop. Then civilization underwent a total transformation. These changes lead to the evolution of the modern day society (Leontief, pp. 217-230). The metals were used in developing military armor, during 1200 BC. Metals were used in arsenal in Europe, such as swords and knives, bronze greaves, helmets and armor. A warrior class was provided with the bronze head-gears.

The metals have played a significant role in developing and evolving the human race to its present form. Metals, which were first used as barter elements, are now used in every thinkable product in modern-day world.
