Influence of Hafez in Iranian Music

Introduction

Iran is considered as one of the rich cultural traditional country, which is extending over thousands of years. There is a strong connection amidst classical Persian culture and Persian Music. The history reveals that, the emergence of cinema art was aimed at exposing culture and tradition of the state in a story form. Since 1990s, modern Persian has been showing culture of poetic consciousness and has continued to attract and inspire people with critical communication and popular commendation. The renowned and eminent poet Shams al-Din Muhammad Hafez-e Shirazi, who was a famous Persian poet of the 14th century and his work, has continued to remain one of the influential poetry among Persian speaking society and worldwide (Browne, pp. 1-4.). Poetry of Hafez had many angels that evoke humans, that is why, his poetry is widely used in Persian Music.

Hafiz of Shiraz is widely known for his poetry and is recognized as the dominant master of the Persian Ghazal genre. His poetry has a lyrical beauty, which is celebrated by people of the world for many centuries. His Divan has got second position, when it was about gaining respect from people of Iran after their Holy book Quran-e-Kareem. The poetry of Hafiz is most appreciated when it is juxtaposed with the music. The lyrical beauty of his poetry has been celebrated by people around the world for centuries now. Hafiz is one of the great Sufi poets, in the tradition of Rumi. In his native land of Persia (modern Iran), where his Divan is revered to an extent rival only by the Qur'an, the beauty of Hafiz's lyrics has always been most appreciated when accompanied by music. His words are not so much like the poetry which is used now as in songs.

Hafez is a man from the days when people knew very little about the music and he revolutionized the way and perspective of the people back then. He came up with the idea of playing musical instruments and initiated and wrote such lyrics which had a soothing affect on people. Hafez poem depicts his creativity.

It is believed that 99% of the lyrics of Hafez relate to the music section. So, it can be said that knowledge in the creation of music in the opinion section of a poem and the expression and release it more pleasant (Ordoubadian, pp. 13-38).
