A brief overview of the history of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG)

InterContinental Hotels is one of the brands of multinational hotel group IHG InterContinental Hotels Group which is currently the first world hotel group by number of rooms at InterContinental Hotels Group . The group has no less than 4,400 hotels worldwide with a total of 647,161 rooms (against 605 938 for InterContinental Hotels Group ). Its head office is located near London. The group has six brands: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza , Holiday Inn , Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo and Staybridge Suites. In 1946 opened the first InterContinental hotel in Brazil. InterContinental was created at the initiative of the company Pan American Airlines (who died in 1991) who considered that there was not enough luxury hotels in many of its destinations. The group has about 150 hotels InterContinental branded apparel in the world. This is primarily franchised hotel (Baldwin, 2005, p560).
