The Internet has been used widely nowadays. It has been used in every field of life such as business, communication, education and so on. Therefore, the Internet becomes one of the most important things that people need in our life. Because of its importance, it has many threats that should be taken into account, because these threats can affect the personal computers and the data stored on these computers. As a result, there is a need to make these computers and data secured .The question that people have to answered now is what is the Internet security?

Internet security became one of the most threats that many people care of when they are connecting to the Internet, because there are some hackers who are able to enter the others' computers and they steal or destroy data stored in these computers. Therefore, there is an urgent need for programs that prevent those hackers; this helps the computer's specialists to invent software's that can detect these threats. Internet security is primarily interested in "protecting internet accounts, profile and the confidential information included in it from unknown and unauthorized users" (Douglas, 2010, p1). In addition, "the Internet is a network of networks not a network of hosts" (Curtin, 1997, p1). This research will be divided into three main parts: the first will discuss the definition of the concept of Internet security; the second part of the research will define the types of internet security threats that affect the computer such as spam, Viruses, Adware/Malware, DOS Attacks and Information Theft. This research will also provide some examples on these threats, and how it works to access the computer and destroy the stored data. Finally, this research will discuss the processes of protecting the computer from these harmful programs. This process is usually in the form of software programmes which check for viruses and block them. They also help us to use our computers safely. These softwares are able to detect any threats or viruses and delete them. There are many anti-virus programs such as Kaspersky, MacAfee, and Avira and so on. These softwares work effectively to prevent these threats. Furthermore, their charges are reasonable.

Numerous persons today are familiar with the Internet and its use. A large number of its users although, are not aware of the security difficulties they face when utilising the Internet. Most users feel they are anonymous when on-line, yet in actuality they are not. There are some very simple ways to defend the user from future problems.

The Internet has conveyed many advantages to its users but has furthermore conceived some major problems. Most persons believe that they are anonymous when they are utilising the Internet. Because of this conceiving, they are not careful with what they do and where they proceed when on the 'net.'
