Intervention Program Plan

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to act as a university based consultant and present an intervention plan of how to increase the father's involvement within the school community. Teacher wants to include the staff without appearing to create more work for them.

Scenario

The school is a community based school named “William McConnaughy Catholic College”, and is a low fee paying private institution. School was formed in a shopping area where only three sections were there for school (Burke, 2007). Later on, the school planned to expand its building and it expanded its building on 9 hectares of land adjacent to the new housing estate. Later on in 2010, school also increased it enrolment and hired new teachers. In order to serve the local community, school will be taking enrolments from primary school aged children too until the opening of a new school.

Intervention Program Plan

The main purpose of this intervention program plan is to create a program which can help in increasing the involvement of fathers in the children's education.

Purpose

Evidences show that there is great importance of parent's involvement in the children's education and brings a positive difference. In the past, it was thought that mother's involvement is important in one's life. However, researches show that fathers can play an important role in their children's education by getting involved in their educational matters. Research shows that the students having their father's involvements are academically better, become more responsive and do not have much discipline problems (Zweizig, 2002). In history, the meaning of parent's involvement has always been taken as mother's involvement in a child's learning and development. Even the schools, head start programs and pre-school's administration had the feeling that in order to encourage children's learning and development the primary role is of mothers. Therefore, the importance of fathers in the child's education and learning has always been neglected. Later, it has been noticed that the father's absence in their children's development has adverse effects (Terman, 2006). Therefore, much importance should be given in increasing the father's involvement in their children's education and learning. A father should be highly involved in his children's learning from their early childhood and should get involved in his activities like how the child reads, sing, tell stories and play with other children. A father's involvement in their children's learning and development helps in developing children's language and their literacy. It helps them in developing their information about places, people and things (Sandlian, 2001). Therefore, it is very necessary that the fathers of the community should increase their involvement in their children's education activities and should attend the schools programs that require a parent's involvements. A father should have high involvement in school activities, which means that he should attend at least three to four activities held during a school year (McCook, 2000). These activities include attending the meeting, a school event, regularly scheduled parent-teacher conference and acting as a volunteer at ...
