Introduction

The aim of this assignment is for the author to research four articles of choice that is evidenced based and that underpins a selected intervention within practice. The literature researched shall be 'effective hand hygiene'. The literature shall be examined and I shall make comparisons on these research articles. These articles have been accessed by searching electronic and professional databases, R.C.N. BMJ, CINAHL, Ovid Journals and Pub Med. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) was established to produce and propagate evidence based guidelines from scientific research which all health care professionals should abide by (Ward,D 2000).

Briefly state why research is important in health care

Effective hand hygiene is a very important factor in health improvement. Hand hygiene guidelines that are currently used in practice today have had many studies conducted that influence evidence based practice showing the importance of hand hygiene. Research is very necessary in health care; therefore, the health care professionals should keep in view the importance of research in the health care. Research in health care is needed because the health professionals cannot get the proper knowledge about the development of new medical treatments and curses. With the passing time, new requirements are emerging for which new technology is needed. In order to find these requirements, proper health care research is necessary in the health care sector. The emergency and discovery of new medicines and equipments is also a result of the health care research. If there was not any research in the health care field then many people have died without any proper cure. The new medicines, diagnosis of new illness, medicines is all result of the health research. Therefore, it can be said that research is a very important factor in the health care sector.

Four Pieces of Studies chosen

In order to conduct the research on hand hygiene I have used four pieces of research. I have used observational studies, survey, qualitative and quantitative studies.

What are the research papers?

A research paper is a study of a phenomenon or fact that can be physical or social. The main findings are presented in an orderly in a document. The study is based on existing documents and / or surveys and interviews.

Observational Studies

One of the studies has been conducted on the hands hygiene. The study was about the Hand washing, a reflex action, promoted worldwide. In this study, the author says that the most effective method to fight against the transmission of infectious agents hand hygiene must be respected in all circumstances. In hospitals, more than elsewhere, this practice should be applied with vigilance by all staff as users (Boyce, 20004, p. 42). In this study the observational methods have been used.
