Thesis Statement:

People over the age of 18 should be allowed to stay in bars until the closing time and the legal age should be changed from 21 to 18.

Background:

Iowa City lies in south-west Wisconsin, on the watershed of the country's largest rivers: the Missouri and the Mississippi. It is the heart of the one-storey of United States, the geographical centre of the continent and the most typical of all indicators state. The alcoholic laws of Iowa City regarding the minimum age of consumption have changed over the decades.

Iowa City was once under the argument based on the ordinance passed in the name of ordinance 21 which was voted down in the 2007. (Douglas, 2008, 56-96)The ordinance states that people under the age of twenty-one year are supposed to stay out of the bars after 10 p.m.

Legislation for minimum drinking in Iowa was raised to the age of 21as per the requirement of National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984. A large number of research bodies have come up with the concern of the impact of raising the minimum age of drinking to twenty-one in Iowa. A number of researches specifically focus on whether the introduction of new has brought the desired results in reducing the traffic fatalities. (Rosalyn, 2008, 112-122)

It has become difficult to go around the Iowa City, without witnessing signs of anti-twenty-one ordinance. The issue states that: the Iowa City bars reverted to the standard of 21 and above 21 laws applied to the bars. Many people think that the law should stay at the age of twenty-one to be the minimum age for drinking , but a number of people including me consider and want that things should go back to the way they were by allowing the minimum age to 18 years old. (Kathleen, 2010, 45-123)

The Iowa City Safety-Committee has said over and over that the ordinance of 21-only has created a bit of chaos in the neighborhoods. As a result of the ordinance, there has been a compromise in all the categories of crime and that the statistics does not show the accurate outcome as they do not include the activities of ICPD. (Charlie, 1999, 68-95) According to the report of Iowa City Safety-Committee, the assaults of noise, the over-doing of drinking and injuries turned out to be more severe since the implementation of this ordinance. The entire community is facing the chaos created by the implementation of ordinance 21-only. (Griffiths, 2009, 100-156)
