CHAPTER 01: METHODOLOGY

The literature review and previous research studies analyzed and explored in the third chapter have explained and demonstrated the concepts of Jamaican students. The research studies which have been used in the literature review has been in depth and extensive. However the research studies are limited and they pertain to a specific region. The previous research studies and the literature review have focused and emphasized on the concepts of Jamaican students and their learning process.

The chapter of methodology will give detailed insight and will also provide an outline of the research design which will be sued in the research study. The chapter will also examine the various aspects and elements for the research design and methods of the proposed study. While analyzing the methodology of the research study, the researcher has adopted the secondary method along with qualitative research methods.

Overview of qualitative and quantitative research approaches

As mentioned by researchers (Yin, 1994) in his study that the most popular and adequate research methods are qualitative and quantitative research methods. The primary difference between the quantitative and qualitative research techniques is based on the approach and strategy they adopt to analyze and explore the issues mentioned in the research study. Moreover difference also lies in the way both the qualitative and quantitative research methods review the studies mentioned in the literature. The researcher (Neuman, 2005 ) have stated that the methods and techniques used in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies have completely different strategies in examining the primary purpose and gathering data for the study (Beckman, 2005). During the process of identification of the issues mentioned in the study, many researchers have stated that quantitative adopts both descriptive and exploratory methods. On the other hand, the qualitative research method utilizes only the exploratory techniques to conduct the study (Creswell, 2007)

(Ghauri, 2005) in his study that the method and techniques of quantitative research methodologies have utilized various techniques which will help in investigating and examining the primary research problem identified in the research study. Moreover the researchers have also stated that all the methods and techniques which are used in quantitative research method increases the validity and reliability of information which further helps the researchers in reducing biasness. The qualitative research method helps in examining the research questions (Yin, 1994). The qualitative method utilizes and incorporates various methods which help in exploring and discovering new knowledge in a natural environment. With the help of quantitative methodologies, the researcher can understand the various aspects of attitudes and behaviors of humans involved in the study. The methods and techniques of quantitative approach depend on the observation and interview which also answers the research questions (Neuman, 2005)

On the other hand, it has been mentioned in many studies (Creswell, 2007) the qualitative approach and techniques discovers and explores new information which also helps the researchers in understanding the ...
