Language Acquisition

Introduction

Studies on languages acquisition has ,evolved over the past 25 years. This development shared the variables of language; so that their , advances have been directly associated to the linguistic models of one way or another were predominant in the minds of researchers. This is not extra not because psycholinguistics is intended to study the process of emergence and de- development of language which impy having a model (which can only provide linguistics) what appears and what develops. The following paper will support the argument about the statement, “There are several types of evidence that language acquisition is guided by an innate capacity for language.” The essay will be developed in the favour of the argument with authentic and relevant linguistic examples. (Bresnan.1978)

The Twso Faces of Languagse

Earlier this century a linguist Saussure in Geneva established the basic difference that has enabled a very important development in the study of language. This distinction is a contrduction n as simple as that language is a dual reality that when it comes to language says two different thing. These two different sides of the language are the language, and speech.

Saussure's book is "The Course in General Linguistics" that were nothing more than the nottes of two of his students afte death, decided to publish them. According to Saussure language is language on the one hand, that is, a system of signs, a formal structure with some units and rules and a cultural tool.

But language is also spoken, i.e. the use made of this system primarily to communicate. Language is the single user function and is, therefore, is an activity and individual behavior. So we can say that language and speech are two different but inseparable realities that are linked by the interaction that involves an individual and use the system. In fact one can say that the interaction is the main foundation of human development.

When it comes to acquisition or development of language we take as synonyms but the truth is that each of the terms has a twist. And acquisition means to acquire an instrument while development refers to the use of a skill. When the study of language acquisition focused on the subject was considered to have already acquired the language at 6-7 years but now that child has acquired a large extent the system will still develop practically all his life. (Brown.1973)
