Learning a Second Language

Introduction

Yes it is important to learn second language other than English in elementary school. In my view elementary school provide learning of a second language from the start of elementary school. It will give them a good basis of two languages, and it can open up more jobs for student when they graduate from high school. The need of translators is growing more and more every day, that's why students need to learn the language at a younger age. Most students take 2 or fewer years of foreign-language classes. That is not enough time to learn a whole language. If student had been teaching that from grades k-12, student could easily have that language mastered. After two to four years, most people are not going to be fluent in that language. In an optimal High School scenario, a person takes four years of that language, and then spends a semester in a country that speaks that language in college. Americans will have to learn a little bit of a new language soon, or they will be handicapped in the future. Other nations, like China and Korea, are rising, and will eventually be the dominant force in the world.
