A learning style is the approach/process through which new information is processed and accepted by an individual. There are a variety of learning styles that are widely prevalent. In most cases, individuals choose to polish their learning styles so that they can ensure the successful intake of information.

Taking the LEAD survey in Chapter 7 has led me to the conclusion that my learning style is essentially visual and tactile. I look for visual aids to facilitate the absorbing and acceptance of new information since it makes it easier for me to comprehend and retain it.

The essential difference between learning styles and learning strategies is that a learning style is the manner in which we approach new information and absorb it, while learning strategies are methods we utilize to improve our learning styles and develop the degree to which our learning styles are effective. Perhaps the most adequate technique that serves the purpose of retaining new information is the technique of Relating. This requires new information to be related with previously held knowledge so that there is a chain of thought that ties them together and facilitates retention.

I am a visual learner, and I find that this helps me integrate my learning style in classroom practice. Firstly, I am fortunate because the use of illustrations for clarifications has become a frequent practice in today's presentations. Developments in Information and Communication technology have served to significantly promote the use of visuals. In cases where I experience a deficiency of adequate visual aids, I choose to record the information and then convert it into simple yet clearly comprehendible illustrations.
