Legalizing gambling in the United States

Introduction

Gambling according to the “to play a game for money or property, to bet on an uncertain outcome, to stake something on a contingency and to take a chance. Gambling is an activity enjoyed by many people around the world. It is an entertaining means to spend time and a way that people are able to gain access to easily made money. In modern times, gambling has become the most prominent entertainment nowadays. In US, government has legalized gambling. There are certain policies, which gamblers, have to follow and act according to those policies. Since, gambling is prevailing in many countries the religious groups due to the inhuman activities being created by it. Gambling is considered to be a source of revenue for the government. It is popular in youngsters as well as old age people. Gamblers believe that they have the power to control their destiny. America is the country in the world that spends most on gambling, per person, after the Philippines (Bj, 389).

Disadvantages of gambling

Since, the game has been allowed to some countries; it has become a social disease. What is spent on gambling in one year is a crime. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association: “The key symptoms of this disorder are a chronic and progressive failure to resist impulses to gamble and the emergence of gambling behavior that compromises, breaks or injures personal goals, family or vocational”.

Typical problems involve a dramatic increase in personal debt and consequent inability to pay and meet other financial responsibilities, which results in disruption of family relationships and attention to work by using illegal financial activities in order to pay (Bj, 389). We are, therefore, faced with a mental illness of a social nature. Gambling, as well as other addictive behaviors, creates a problem situation with important social implications. The ability of a player for the normal development of their daily life is severely affected, so that changes occur in family relationships, work and irregularities in illegal financial activities.

To a greater or lesser extent, family breakdown is present in the environment of gamblers, resulting in progressive deterioration of the living, not only married, but father-son. This can be related to the problems of an economic nature that appear in many cases. Not forgetting that a conflict environment is not the best place for training in human and Christian values of the younger members of the generation. The workplace is another social space to consider. When the level of gambling addiction is considerable, it is easy to find excuses to divert some of the time should be devoted to working, or just the mood of the subject prevents it from carrying out its work successfully, and some may begin to fail.
