Libyan Dictator: Gaddafi

Introduction

Muhammad al-Gaddafi, also known as Muammar Gaddafi and Colonel Gaddafi was the leader of Libya till 1977 and then became an unofficial Brother Leader Arab Libyan Jamahiriya from 1977 till his recent demise in 2011. During February 2011, following the revolution in Middle East, Libyan's started protests against Gaddafi. These protests became a movement where people voiced their dislike towards Gaddafi's rule. This unrest let to Libya civil war 2011, with the intervention of NATO coalition forces and passing of UNSC's resolution in order to protect Libyan civilians.

Gaddafi idealized Islam with his own interpretation of religion and had no regard for other religions. His thinking was that Islam is the only true religion and all other religions are false (Vandewalle & Dirk, pp. 124). He was also against the west, and in his speech, in UN General Assembly, in September 2009, he blamed that United Nations have always failed to stop wars. He also claimed that Security Council is very powerful and biased and; therefore, should be abolished. He also criticized Europe for past imperialism. In his own opinion, he was doing right, and he thought that Libya should be administered on his perception of Islamic State. During 1970s, Gaddafi was portrayed as “Freedom Fighter”, so was his way of leading and philosophy correct and did West took advantage of Middle East uprising and seized Gaddafi for vested interests? Was Gaddafi murder a part of conspiracy set up by Western Elements?

Gaddafi government started facing unrelenting protests in Libya on Feb 2011. In the following days, protest continued to up rise and gained momentum. Gaddafi government started taking military action.
