Introduction

At the age of four years, Young Ju has been observed as not a happy girl when she was leaving her home that was in Korea and wanted grandmother (Halmoni) to leave to America with her parents whom she calls as Mi Gook and believes America as the land of wonders and a promising land that offers not just luxury but considered it as the heaven. Throughout the experiences of the young Ju, the readers see and observe the feelings of the family when migrated to other country and find themselves into a big problem when living in the United States. Author describes the Ju's parents struggle with the problems they faced due to the migration to America so called the “Heaven”. The problems mainly faced were jobs that were low-paying, and are mainly dependent on following the language criteria. Young Ju's bitter and alcoholic father abuses his children and wife and stops Young Ju to go to her American friends because of their own culture and mainly the biasness and inferiority complex. Young Ju bravely takes action that sets her mother, younger brother and herself on the path to yet another new life in America.

Analysis

The novel of the Anna measures a deep impact on the life of a little girl who actually faced different phases of life from leaving her home country to her aggressive father's rude attitude. The book highlights the major points such as the aggressiveness of Ju's father. The An Na identifies the aggressive behavior was the cause of low pay job and the new culture and language adoption problems. She did not mention the laws and regulations that demote the racism and different language biasness among the people and identified California as a place where people, belonging to diverse groups or societies could not survive which gives a very negative impact to the people who belong to different cultures and wanted to migrate to America.

The Na traces the life of a young girl who was born in Korean-born, Ju who suffered a big change because of her migration from Korea to America through her teenage years, wrapping up her story just a few weeks before she leaves for college. The story of Na chronicles, in the Young Ju's graceful and resonant voice is defined as an acculturation process that is sometimes triumphant, sometimes wrenching and finding the consistent absorbing. The story had been told like a memoir. The author uncovers the jewel-like events very carefully and has joined them together in a very special manner to avoid the ambiguity about the little girl's dreams and sky touching thoughts. The book opens with the scene of Ju's parents who are really excited and were busy in the preparation, to move from Korea to "Mi Gook," America, having a perception that the people in America live in big houses.
