Low Energy PIC Data Acquisition System

Abstract

A Data Acquisition System is developed as for the PIC microcontroller design A microcontroller is a processing unit of the microprocessor type information which has been added to the internal devices for performing fixtures without requiring the addition of components of annexes. A microcontroller can operate independently after programming.

In this sense, the PIC is particularly well endowed, because they incorporate program memory, data memory, input-output ports, and even clock (although external time base can be used).

Low Energy PIC Data Acquisition System

Introduction

A Data Acquisition System captures or catches the data and info of a real system. The Data Acquisition System saves the data and info in a format or pattern that is simply retrieved for the review and analysis of the scientific or engineering purposes. The secondary prerequisite of a Data Acquisition System is that it catches the data and info automatically or programmatically.

This capturing of data and info is done in complex words or language, without the help of human involvement or assistance. The Data Acquisition System can be named as DAQ or DAS respectively. The measurement of three fundamental quantities i.e. current, voltage and temperature can present sufficient data and information to permit for debugging of approximately any electrical circuit (Dandawate, 2007).

The microcontrollers have participated with an innovative role in the embedded engineering after the development of Intel 8051. The progressive and stable research in the engineering field provided the industry more proficient, low-power consumption and high-performance microcontrollers. The PIC microcontroller is used to lessen the tasks of CPU i.e. to offload the I/O so as to improve the performance of the system on the whole.

During the development of a low energy PIC DAS, it can be determined that some sort of data logging is essential. This is used to protect the controller and verify if the controller is properly operating or not.

A Data Acquisition System will be developed from the measurements and information. The measurement of the data acquisition system is from one channel of current from -50 to +50 amps, one channel of voltage from 0 to 20 volts, and two channels of temperature i.e. one load and one ambient. This quantity of information is sufficient to find out the efficiency of PIC microcontroller and its rise in temperature. The PIC micro controller data acquisition system is specifically designed to run longer and save energy. Low energy is required by more electronic applications which paramounts the energy conservation.

Discussion

Microcontrollers

Microcontrollers are programmable integrated circuits. They include, in a single chip, the various elements usually found in the CPU of a computer tor personnel. In particular, they contain a unit cal- ass, various volatile and nonvolatile memory, and an in- seems "internal interfaces" facilitating communication with the outside world. They are designed to be programmed by a computer, and then placed in an electronic ...
