Summary

The two generals of King Duncan, Macbeth and Banquo, encounter three strange women in Scottish moorland, during their journey home, after a fierce battle against a relative of the king who wanted to usurp. In battle, these two generals were known for their strength, courage and loyalty, particularly Macbeth.

The three women, also known as the three fateful sisters are actually three witches greet Macbeth with his noble title, and predict that over the Earl of Glamis will also become Earl of Cawdor, and then king Banquo. However, the new king will not be too happy, and then the three witches disappear in the air. During their journey Macbeth learns the news that the king has dismissed the count because he was the architect of the revolt against King Duncan, and his place will go to those who most valiantly fought to preserve the king. Macbeth, who realized that the witches' prophecy has come true, and he also received the news of king's visit to honor the castle with a short visit. Macbeth writes a letter to his wife where he tells the last events, with particularly paid attention to the prophecy, also inform her about the forthcoming visit of King Duncan. When Lady Macbeth receives it, she swears to help him to become a king by using any possible means. Macbeth returns home, and soon the king Duncan arrived. The couple conspire together to kill the king, and as Macbeth struggles and cannot decide whether to act or not, his wife is resolute and manages to convince the undecided husband (Nicholas 2008, Pp. 57).
