Definition of leadership

Leadership is the set of capabilities that a person has to influence a group of people, making a team working with enthusiasm in achieving goals and objectives. It also means the ability to take initiative, manage, hold, promote, encourage, motivate and evaluate a group or team. In the business management, leadership is the exercise of executive activity in a project, effectively and efficiently, whether personal or institutional management (within the organisation's administrative process).

Leadership implies that one person (leader or not) can influence and motivate others (followers). Hence in leadership studies, there is an emphasis on the ability of persuasion and influence. Traditionally, the sum of these two variables has been called charisma. However, current studies in psychology and sociology have concluded that charisma has no historical importance and that there are other factors that are determinant in building leadership (Renesch, 1994, 14).

It is an individual's ability to lead other individuals or organisations in order to achieve certain goals. We shall then say that a leader is someone who can guide, influence and inspire people. A leader is different from a manager or decision maker, who has capabilities for administration, but cannot lead the group, organisation or country to another stage of its development.

Leaders must have a good understanding of the culture of their organisation because it influences how to respond to changing demands of business. When the leader identifies the need to bring a change of structure, the implementation will be successful provided that the transition plan recognise and acknowledge the values ??and beliefs for the culture of the organisation and embody these values ??in action(Zaccaro, 2001, 3).

Definition of Globalisation

Phenomenon of globalisation is known for the merged economies and open borders as a result of increased trade, capital movements, the movement of people and ideas, dissemination of information, knowledge and techniques and a process of deregulation. This process, both geographically and sectorally, is not recent, but has accelerated in recent years. The globalisation is a source of many opportunities, but remains one of the biggest challenges that are facing today by the countries. To fully exploit the growth potential of this phenomenon and ensure a fair sharing of benefits, the European Union seeks to establish a model of sustainable development through multilateral governance in order to reconcile economic growth, social cohesion and environmental protection environment (Montana, 2008, 212).

Globalisation means the expansion and harmonisation of interdependence among nations, human activity systems and policies throughout the world. It also refers to transfer and international exchange of goods, labour and knowledge.

The impacts of globalisation on leadership

Leadership and management is the most important aspect of any organisation in moving towards development.
