Introduction

Management style of any organization determines its future success. This application of this approach is somehow is limited to the private sector / organizations, as mostly private organization has to face competition in the market, whereas public sector organizations often enjoy complete monopoly. This significant difference also affects the way both sectors operate and manage their day to day task in any economy, however effective management of public sector is considered the reflection of efficient and strong government. As bad management of public sector organization rest upon the government of the state, thus government takes all the possible measure to keep the public sector organization effective. (Pettigrew and Whipp, 2001) This factor however, increases the demand of the customer satisfaction in public sector, though private sector is already centered its attention towards customer satisfaction, because their revenue rest upon this factor. These factors contribute lead the path of the same management styles in public and private sector organization. As Boyne (2002) state in his study that the management of private and public sector differ only in context, however this difference is significant.

This paper will critically evaluate the statement of Boyne (2002) by reviewing existing literature in order to find out the validity of this statement as well as what is the significant difference between these two organization. This paper will also either support of deny the statement in the light of the evidence of previous researches. In this connection this study will describe the public and private sector individually, how they operate, the difference in their management styles along with highlighting several other differences. Discussing these factors is crucial is order to critically evaluate the statement, the main purpose of this paper.

The recent interventions in the field of employment law and industrial relations in the government and private sector are a useful opportunity to reflect on the characteristics of the two labor markets while avoiding real ideologies and focusing on the dynamics, organizational and production the two sectors. (Pettigrew, 2010) The events that are characterizing the labor market public and private sectors are more and more different and distant from each other, creating a deep rift which is not fully justified by the specificity of the two markets. If a superficial ideological approach has focused on convergence and homogenization of the public working with the private sector in terms of sources of regulation regardless of their organizational characteristics and production sector the recent reality provides two sectors increasingly governed by different rules and different even in the presence of organizational needs.
