Managers and Their Roles

Managers are the building blocks of any organization. The manager has five main functions: planning, organizing, staffing, management and control. At all levels of government we have managers who work there, and to comply with one or more of these management functions. Manager's role is to achieve efficient use of resources in the organization. It achieves this through the coordinated efforts of people (Gomez, 2008, 66). The manager has a very important role in achieving the objectives of the organization. He is responsible for coordinating the individual goals with organizational goals. It is very important to achieve long-term organizational success.

Fayol was one of the key numbers in the turn-of-the-century Classical School of Management Theory. He glimpsed a manager's job as:

 

1. Planning 

2. Organizing 

3. Commanding 

4. Coordinating activities

 

5. Controlling performance

Most of his idea is very task-oriented, other than people-oriented. Fayol prepared down the next values of association (he called them values of management:

 

Specialization of Labor: Specializing boosts relentless enhancement in abilities and the development of improvements in methods. 

Authority. The right to give instructions and the power to accurate obedience. 

Unity of direction: A lone brain develops a lone design and all play their part in that plan. 

Subordination of Individual Interests: When at work, only work things should be chased or considered about. 

Centralization: Consolidation of administration functions. Decisions are made from the top. 

Scalar Chain (line of authority): Formal string of connections of order running from peak to base of the association e.g. like military 

Order: All components and staff have a prescribed location, and they should stay there.

Personnel Tenure: Limited revenue of personnel. Lifetime paid work for good workers.

Manager is the one who communicates the organizational vision with the organization's staff. It should ensure an effective flow of communications within the organization, so that misunderstandings should not occur.

Management arranges the components of output, assembles and organizes the assets, integrates the assets in productive kind to accomplish goals. It directs group efforts in the direction of accomplishment of pre-determined goals. By characterizing target of association clearly there would be no wastage of time, cash and effort. administration converts disorganized resources of men, appliances, money etc. into helpful enterprise. These assets are coordinated, directed and controlled in such a kind that enterprise works in the direction of attainment of goals.

The manager has a crucial role in the decision-making process within the organization. It must decide how to make and communicate organizational change. He plays an important role in defining the goals of the organization. It must be in close contact with the staff of the organization. He should understand them and inspire them. He should give confidence to them so they can perform effectively. He should also praise them if they demonstrate excellent work; he must provide them with constructive feedback, rather than a negative feedback.
