Personal Statement

I have been working at World Vision since five years which has enabled me to gain extensive experience. This has also enabled me to develop understanding with regards to issues related to poverty and the challenges the people have to face in their daily lives. I aim to achieve developmental goals and have also worked in Supporter Services team where I handled queries of the customers and developed the ability to handle responses which enhanced my problem solving skills. I opted for rational thinking as a means of dealing with the customers and to solve their issues. Besides this, I have also worked as Supervisor of Payments Team because of which I got the chance to manage a team of five people that developed my leadership and organizational skills. Keeping my skills and experiences in mind, I aim to pursue a management course in the university, which I think is ideal for me. I have displayed good leadership skills in my team and I also have good socializing skills. With regards to my hobbies, I am always keen to increase my knowledge, therefore, I love to meet new people and participate in events such as sports. Since I have been a keen sportswoman, my next challenge is the race for life half marathon.

Leadership Goals

My leadership goal is focus to on self-reflection as this will help me in highlighting my strengths and weaknesses and the ways in which I can improve. Moreover, I also aim to develop self-esteem of my team members and to keep them motivated at all times. I was taught many leadership theories and models, but there were some readings that had a major impact on me. These include flaws that derail leaders, Inclusive leader, The COP Leader, Important traits of a leader, Value-based leadership, leadership competencies and diversity. I believe that these would help me grow as a leader and would be beneficial for me in strengthening my leadership skills and abilities in order to proceed ahead.

Developmental Goals

Henry David Thoreau has said that, “One is not born into the world to do everything, but to do something.” By this, it can be said that the human beings who are born are assigned with different tasks for life when they take birth. Therefore, since they are destined to do individual tasks, they cannot do everything in life. Moreover, since every individual has abilities which differ from one person to another, there are people who can do some tasks better than the other because they are more efficient in doing them. With regards to this saying by Thoreau, something that I believe I have been born to do is to become a good human being and a social worker.
